History & Heritage
Introduction
Our interest in history evolved from our overseas travel interest. Each time we visited a major city (e.g., Prague, Athens etc) we became interest in the city’s history. Furthermore, when we produced an eBook about our visit to the city a chapter on the city’s history would be included.
On one special trip within Australia in 2015 we drove up the Queensland coast to Port Douglas. A key focus of the trip was Queensland Heritage-listed buildings in each of the towns we visited. We produced an eBook about this trip. Also, we produced articles for our website which showcased the heritage-listed buildings we photographed.
Then COVID-19 arrived, and we were “grounded”. We suddenly realised we were learning more about the history of overseas cities we visited than we knew about the cities in our own state!
This sudden realisation led to a focus on cities closer to home – Gympie and Maryborough. Consequently, we have produced history and heritage books (eBooks, printed books, and photobooks) about these two cities since the onset of COVID-19. Tellingly, this has led to a plan to explore the history and heritage of Townsville and Rockhampton over the next couple of years. Furthermore, we intend to prepare (concurrently) photobooks showcasing the heritage-listed buildings to be found in the Queensland coastal cities.
As mentioned, we completed a driving trip up the Queensland coast in 2015, and we are undertaking a similar trip this year (2022) up to Townsville via Bundaberg, Rockhampton, Mackay, and Charters Towers. The purpose is to research, prepare and self-publish history and heritage books (eBook, printed book, and photobook) about Townsville. In addition, we will gather photographs for our photobook on the heritage-listed buildings in our selected Queensland coastal towns.
